When it comes to firearms, nothing epitomizes portable protection as much as the pistol. The pistol went from being a cumbersome single shot weapon to the concealable automatic handgun that spits out 1200 rounds per minute.
A pistol is a type of handgun. Some handgun experts and dictionaries make a technical distinction that views pistols as a subset of handguns; others use the terms interchangeably. Sometimes in usage, the term "pistol" refers to a handgun having one chamber integral with the barrel, making pistols distinct from the other main type of handgun, the revolver, which has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers.
Several of the weapons that were part of our collection prior to Hurricane Katrina were heavily damaged from the flood waters as shown in the photos. While the process is ongoing, many have been restored.
