Mission - Mission

The Friends of the Jackson Barracks Military Museum, Inc. formed in 1987 along with the Louisiana Maneuver and Military Museum, Inc. formed in 1995, combined organizations in 2013 to form what is known today as The Friends of the Louisiana National Guard Museum’s, Inc. (Friends). The mission of Friends is to provide the citizens of the State of Louisiana with an educational resource that perpetuates the rich heritage of the Louisiana Citizen Soldier by supporting the Louisiana National Guard Museums in their ability to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts historically significant to Louisiana and educating the public through Formal Education programs.

The goal of the museum is to narrate a story of Louisiana’s participation in safeguarding the defense and freedom of the United States, with a laser focus on the contribution of Louisiana’s citizenry. Another goal of the museum is to compliment other New Orleans area military attractions, to include; the National World War II Museum, the Civil War Museum and the Chalmette National Battlefield.
