Tours

Our museums provide memorable field trips and tours for school classes, community groups, military units and families.

Exhibit Tours

Exhibit tours include a short introduction followed by a self-guided walk through our galleries.  At Jackson Barracks you will see the history of Louisiana Soldiers from 1718 to present, a large handheld firemarms display and the history of the 1834 Barracks itself.  The Louisiana Maneuvers and Military Museum displays cover the history of Training Center Pineville and the story of the World War II Louisiana Maneuvers training events.  Please allow at least an hour for your visit.  Guided tours through the galleries are available upon request.

“Behind the Scenes”

The “Behind the Scenes” tour at Jackson Barracks includes a guided walk through our collections, archive and library areas to view rarely seen items and learn how our staff preserves the collection.

Historic Garrison Tour

The Jackson Barracks Historic Garrison tour provides visitors with escorted access to the 1834 Historic District Highlights include the former post cemetery and its relation to the Seminole Indian Removals of the 1830s, Greek Revival and frontier post architectural features, and some of the significant events and US Army commanders who have been stationed here over the years.  A half-hour to an hour, walking or driving, is recommended for this tour.
